Remakes and reboots, whether they be movies, tv shows, or any other forms of entertainment, are just a shortcut for creatively depleted companies or just plain cash grabs and I’m sick of it, and I’m sick of people feeding these companies and adding to the supply of remakes. Big companies are attacking our nostalgia, and it's a low blow.
The primary target of this rant and arguably the biggest example of recycling content in recent years is Disney. Their live action (and entirely computer generated remakes) are being pumped out 3+ times a year and that’s 3+ times too many damnit. How stupid do they think their audience is, how low are their expectations for us? Very stupid and very low. It’s completely unnecessary to remake these already great movies, COMPLETELY. Aladdin, Lion King, The Jungle Book, LEAVE THEM ALONEEEE!!!! It’s just so stupid, what real reason justifies these remakes? Not only are they lame, but much of the beauty of these original storylines was the art that paired with them. The old school Disney animation that proceeded computer animation is a large part of the appeal. Some things just don’t translate to live action or cgi effects such as character design, their actions, and their surroundings. So why, whyyyy do people still go and watch these movies? I genuinely want to know Nobody would watch the new Lion King if it wasn’t for the star lineup that almost had me on board, almost.
The other target on my radar is the app Tik Tok, the wannabe successor to the untouchable legend of Vine. Words cannot describe how much I hate Tik Tok and its perplexing popularity. My first reactions to Tik Tok was 1. How dare you, and 2. This is cringy as hell, and it still is. One of the things that made Vine great was that it was around for a relatively short period of time, it knew when its time was up. And then Tik Tok came along and dug up Vine’s grave, and yall were just okay with that I guess. Once again, I ask, why? It’s such a weird hatred I have for Tik Tok, I can’t really express it much past “it’s a cringy rip-off,” but that’s essentially what it is. Vine is an untouchable for those of us who grew up with it.
Remakes are lame, I refuse to give money to these people who continue to recycle classic material, and everyone else should too. The existence of remakes and reboots keep me up at night, I cannot describe how deeply I despise them. We have to stop falling into the traps of big name studios, stop going to see these reboots and stick it to em.
